Dry Skin? Me too.

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

Every year my skin becomes tremendously dry as the weather turns cooler and gets chilly. While the cooler weather is certainly a welcomed change, my skin always hates it. Until this year when I discovered Dermalogica’s Intensive Moisture Balance. And had it not been for my facial at The Spa, I might not have even been turned on to the product.

The lotion is designed to combat dry skin and reduce the signs of premature aging. The Vitamin A helps increase elasticity and reverse the signs of photoaging, while antioxidant vitamins C and E reduce skin-damage and strengthen the skin’s lipid barrier (a part of the top layer of the epidermis) to help prevent moisture loss while smoothing fine lines.

However, here are additional tips to help protect your skin this winter season:

  • Seek an esthetician or dermatologist who can analyze your skin type and give you advice on the skin care products you should be using. (I did mention I had a facial from one of the skin therapists [the new term for esthetician] at The Spa right?)
  • Moisturize more. (We just talked about this).
  • Sunscreen is your friend- even in the winter months to protect you against the winter sun. Apply 30 minutes prior to going outside.
  • Lastly, I don’t know about you but my face isn’t the only skin that gets dried out. And after a little on-line researching, I learned that the skin on the hands is thinner and has fewer oil glands than most parts of the body thus making it harder to keep them moisturized. However, wearing gloves prior to going out, will help keep them more moisturized and help avoid itchiness and cracking.
